Captain Davis Love III shot a strong opening round 6-under 64 to take the lead at The Honda Classic. His round was jump-started by a hole-in-one on the par-3 fifth hole in route to a front nine 30. Rory McIlroy is sitting in a good spot to make a weekend run at the number 1 ranking with an opening 66 putting him two off the lead and tied for second.
"The Bear Trap" seemed to lack it's usual bite on Thursday due in large part to fairly calm winds. All in all, low winds and "lift, clean and place" conditions made for a lower than average scoring day.
The always interesting Tiger Woods had a beautiful ball striking round, but the putter let him down as it took him 34 putts to navigate the course. Woods will have a go of it in the morning on Friday, so he may could post a decent round and see if the weather has an effect on the afternoon wave's scores.
Keep an eye on rookie Harris English tomorrow. He had it to 5-under before a bogey on 15 dropped him into a log-jam tie for second at 4-under. He's had a really nice start to the rookie season and he's back in a part of the country that he's used to playing.
Check back tomorrow and see if PGA National plays a little tougher, and who's looking good for the weekend.
