- Defending champion Nick Watney will be completely overlooked.
- Expect Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson to deservedly grab plenty of pre-tournament headlines. Also expect to hear a ton of "experts" pick Tiger to win this week. It's hard to argue against it.
- Since this event came to Doral in 2007, the winners in order starting in 2007 are Woods, Geoff Ogilvy, Mickelson, Ernie Els and Nick Watney. You know who's game is a lot like these guys? McIlroy. Also, everyone named above with the exception of Watney is a Major Champion. Woods, Oglivy and Els are all U.S. Open champions and Mickelson has finished runner up in what feels like 29 U.S. Opens, but it's actually more like five. Hey......McIlroy won a U.S. Open didn't he? hmmm
- Other recent Major winners who had nice finishes at The Honda Classic include Charl Schwartzel and Graeme McDowell.
Either way, the winner will need to have some length as well as the ability to score on par-5's, hit a high number if GIR and will need to have an above average week with the putter.
